Alpha to Omega

 Ted hs been a father figure for Nate. The first episode has Nate being Amazed that someone remembered his name. Ted asked for his help, took his advice finally rewarding him as a coach. Nate's ego started to go, a necessary accomplishment for one in their 20-30's. Nate loves Ted so much he gives him a picture of the two at Nate's crowning moment. Nate goes to Keely who is a power person developing her own ego as she grows from model/samll time actress (she's on the hotel channel ) to team PR wiz which leads to a VC funding her own PR firm. Keely's growth seems appropriate, Nate's doesn't (spitting on bathroom mirrors).  We see how Nate's real father emotionally abuses him. And most of the first season Nate is abused by the team players. It's masterful how Ted gets Roy to end that. Ted has grown to a 'connect and collaborate' leader who believes in helping everyone become the best version of themselves. Ted is not about power, not about comma...

Seems Russia is having problems fighting this war. Today I read Russia changed conscription to raise the age limit–seems man-power is an issue. Russia also has trouble with hardware; there's a lot of older resources such as tanks being thrown into the mix not to mention the shortage of ammo one reads about. I also read very similar things about what's going on in the US armed forces. See here about one class of naval ships out of the sea . Army recruitment is off 40%. Why did Ukraine need cluster bombs–because they couldn't the other bombs they were using? So if I'm in the Pentagon I'm thanking Russia for waking up the armed services as they ratchet up for war with China. It's real live testing of equipment and strategies. How lucky can we be? I just finished watching season 4 of Mozart in the Jungle and really enjoyed it. Came across this Vanity Fair article regarding it and wanted to share it hoping maybe you might enjoy it too!

The Republican elite allowed themselves to become so greedy for influential power by buying politicians, that they all tried to varying degrees to "buy", I mean support, one of the 17 presidential candidate, and in the end lost with Trump who claims he's self-funded and can't be bought. The main weakness of the Republican Party is that while it built a reputation of being conservative, with family values, really it is run by rich elites for the sole purpose of serving their best interests.  How is it conservative to produce goods and services at the expense of the environment? To wage unconstitutional wars and "expense it" to the middle and lower class, both monetarily through taxes  and with their children's lives, while the rich not only don't pay for it, but actually profit. When I was in college and Alan Watts was hot, I thought enlightenment was a sudden flash. Bang–Nirvana–I'm now an enlightened being. That's like thinking God literally created the universe and then rested in seven 24-hour days. Enlightenment is more like the creation: it can start with a big bang of insight, an epiphany, but it is a progressive, constantly evolving process of awareness. The creator is reflected in creation. We reflect the creator and recapitulate creation in our own lives–we start with a big bang and evolve over time. I’m sure you’ve seen this before: Namaste’ is an ancient Sanskrit word that means… I honor the place in you where the entire universe dwells. I honor the place in you which is of truth, of light, of peace, and love, And when we communicate with that level of awareness, WE ARE ONE! I saw this tonight and thought how complicated it is; it is so rational brain. Doesn’t “We are one” cover it all? Isn’t that enough to ponder. This strikes me as what we do in Western thinking; we try to define it, to bring in the scalpel of reason and break it into its parts. But that’s the whole problem. My creed: I believe in God, the rest are details that separate us. All-One (a daily reminder being on the Dr. Bonner soap I use) is enough to spend a lifetime trying to integrate into who I am/we are .

Microsoft Word is dying. It is dying in personal, educational, and online business computing (it will take longer in the established business realm). In education, young Turk's are moving us to an online world of Unix (OS X /Linux). In this world the cost of the software to run the computer, whether it's a server or a person's computer, is virtually free–and it doesn't use Microsoft. And you don't need Microsoft Office, especially Word. Why? Because application software, such as Microsoft Office, is virtually free on Linux or OS X (I can get iLife and iWorks for $78). It doesn't use Microsoft. (School administrators take note; are you using or moving to Linux or OS X?) But Word is dying regardless of low cost or free alternatives. Word, and really all of Microsoft (except server stuff), are dying because Web 2.0 is killing it. I wanted our 8th grade students to write using a blog. I envisioned it as some type of journal writing assignment. Then I wanted the English teacher to give a topic and have the students respond to it. My Spanish teacher wants online portfolios for the kids (eFolios). I found a number of tools to do each; but I was looking for a solution that solved blog+portfolio+discussion board. I got Movable Type, but it’s pretty limited for aggregation. (I also had a hell of a time getting it to run on Windows Server 2003 and IIS; then once working, it kept mysteriously breaking). Then I found   Drupal . I sit in a smoke-filled room, engulfed in second-hand smoke that my wife Mary will surely notice tonight, while 74-year old Dorothy wheezes and strains with each breath. Cigarettes are killing her, but she would rather die than not smoke, Edith confides. Dorothy’s labored breathing sounds like an iron lung (I saw these when young–polio) that needs ball-bearings replaced. A short talk (“I love to talk” she says) exhausts her. She slips away, her eyes mostly closed while she struggles for oxygen. I sit and look at her thinking of Susan Sarandon’s character in the movie “Shall We Dance”, explaining how we are here to witness each other's lives. I witness Dorothy, witness conversations about her, her life and her children– “three ducks lined-up along the west coast; San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle”. What work it is for her to breath. I have left the world. Television/cable is gone (my 19 and 26 year old sons are starting to wonder how they will get their SF Giants fix; it was something we all enjoyed last year together). I have stopped reading newspapers. I refuse to listen to the news on radio. My window on the world (I just realized) is http://news.google.com. I am in the world but not of the world, waiting for the justice of karma to correct the good old USA. I know it will be a long wait. I pray not too many more will suffer and die while the madmen inside the beltway have their way.
